An interesting exploration of the significance of walking as a cultural activity. Solnit looks at historical and literary walkers to figure out what Western culture thinks of long-distance walking and explores the change in that trend over time. It’s charmingly serious: one chapter is titled “Aerobic Sisyphus and the Suburbanized Psyche.”
