A rollicking historical fantasy that spans the Mughal empire and Renaissance Italy. It still wasn’t as great as The Ground Beneath Her Feet, but I don’t think Salman Rushdie can write a book that I won’t like. Highlights of this one are the emperor Akbar and the mopey politician Machiavelli.
