A collection of haunting & unpleasant stories, all set in the 20^th-century Middle East. For example, the title story is about a group of refugees hiding in a semi truck as they try to get across a desert, who wind up cooking in the hot sun. They have technical and literary merit but I wouldn’t recommend reading this unless you’re in a morbid place to start with.
